So many shoes, which ones do i wear!?!?
How do we navigate the ever changing landscape of women's footwear?!? Especially today as the shoe designers seem to not know what decade it is. Think glitter covered birkenstock's!! (No lie, I almost bought them…and still might ;)
All of the shoes, from when I was in 3rd grade are back….mules (don’t worry, I wasn’t wearing them back then), shoes with ankle straps, tevas, birkenstocks, and designer versions of tevas and birkenstocks! Who knew these would ever rear their head again?!? NOT ME! I made my mom throw her Teva’s away a few years back!
So, here a few ways to do these trends, without looking like you have on your mother or husbands shoes (or like the above)!!
1. Birkenstock Look
No need to go out and buy a pair of birkenstocks - unless that’s your look, and if so, go for it!!
But, if your like me, you just can’t do it again (and honestly don’t remember them being that comfortable anyway).
Instead, let’s go for a little more feminine look, with the same appeal
2. Teva Look
I, honestly, believe that these are super functional shoes…for the water! They’re great for walking in creeks and going on hikes where you might end up swimming! Other than that, well…i’m not sure
BUT, I will surmise that Teva has SERIOUSLY stepped up its game. They’re doing some really cute metallic versions of the trusty Teva we used to know (on the right)! And there was definitely lots of this look walking down the runway (like the kate spade version on the left)!!
Mules truly do come in all shapes and sizes!! You can get a mule that looks more like a wedge (just with a heel), a mule that looks like a pump...or even one that looks more clog like! Just be careful not to look too clunky!
4. Wedges with some GLAM!
Some designers have taken an architectural turn with their wedges! Which we are LOVING!! There are some out there that are VERY Lady Gaga…and you definitely don’t need to try those! But there are some REALLY fun ones, that make for a great conversation pieces!!
5. Ankle Straps
Ankle straps are so huge right now…that it's causing quite a dilemma! We hear that they’re not so flattering, but they seem to be everywhere!! SO, what to do?!? There are some GORGEOUS shoes with ankle straps right now (flats and heels)…and I have a couple that I love! You just have to be careful!!
A couple guiding points:
*If you can, find a pair where the ankle strap doesn’t go straight across, but is more of an arrow pointing down the foot (making your leg appear longer rather than chopped off)!!
*Try to get thinner ankle straps, so that they don’t look so chunky (breaking your leg up)!
* It’s preferable if the strap is more on your foot than ankle..giving the appearance of the ankle strap, without breaking your leg and foot up!
